An Avatar Art Alliance! Koinup & Frenzoo joint contests

Picture 1 As an avatar community centered around creativity and style, we're super big fans of Koinup.com

No, it's not a retro arcade gaming e-zine, it's a Web 2.0 site - one where people share their art work and experiences from tons of different virtual worlds and 3D games such as The Sims and Second Life... and now Frenzoo!

Our two sites are now collaborating for a couple of awesome competitions...

Firstly there is a contest running now on Frenzoo which is all about producing avatar art snapshot using the colors of the koinup logo (a mighty fine one if we may say so)..  and that will be followed up with a contest to run on Koinup where Frenzoo art can be submitted and voted on.

It should be a lot of fun, check out the avatar art contest here and get involved!

ps - here is a great entry from 3D Ztylist - Coocies in the contest, yay!

Michael Jackson on Frenzoo, tribute

Michael Jackson Avatar

The shocking news about Michael Jackson's passing had an impact on our 3D avatar & style community, Frenzoo.

Members from USA, South Africa, UK and around the world expressed their sadness and admiration for the greatest star.  One ztylist, Janella from Philippines suggested in the forum to make some special animations such as moonwalk as a tribute - something we are making at the moment.

20090629(005)-003 Another ztylist, Mika,  a 17 year old IT student from Hong Kong decided to make his avatar look like King of Pop as tribute and sent the picture above to us... we asked him why:

How did you feel when you heard that Michael Jackson had died?
"Very sad, and shocked. Even though I'm young I still loved his music and style"

Why did you decide to make your avatar look like him?
"If you lose a friend... you will find their photo or anything to remember them.  SoI wanted to change my avatar to be like him to express the same feeling"

How did you make it?
I went to the virtual shop and got the hair and clothes similar to his dance outfit, then I went to face editor and made him look as similar as possible. Finally I bought a background uploaded by a VIP ztylist to complete it.

Thanks for sharing Mika... and MJ, you will be remembered ^_^

Amazing 3D avatar fanart - Kez!

Picture 5 We know the members of our 3D avatar style community, Frenzoo, are a talented bunch (some awesome fan created fashions in the shop), and there are a few truly leading lights who are extremely creative and come up with amazing artwork.

We spotted this creation in Kez's profile page and it was so good we had to share it. We recently expanded our Freebie shop to include a lot more diverse styles and she took these and came up with a great lookbook set based on the new pieces...

Go Kez!!

Ideas & Excitement at unConference 2009

Picture 5

Frenzoo, the 3D Avatar Style Community was part of the unConference 2009 event in Singapore on Saturday, and it was a blast!  unConference is the biggest tech startup event in Asia, and there were around 300-400 people attending and a really productive day on many fronts.

Picture 6

We were fortunate to be selected as one of the 9 Asian startups (some great ones, check the link) to pitch to the panel of judges, which included Scott Rafer, CEO of Lookery and former CEO of MyBlogLog (Yahoo) and Dan Neary, head of Skype (eBay) Asia Pacific.  It was an exciting time, and the nervous energy of stepping up in front of such a large and switched on crowd was a lot of fun.  The pitch went great, and the judges gave positive and helpful feedback...

Also thank you to the bloggers who covered it including SG entrepenuers and Richard Korff and Cyberspace Nova who wrote:

"nice 3D teen website where you can dress your 3D characters buying clothes or designing your own. Great presentation, very clean and clear on their key points. Congratulations, hope they will be big."

Apart from the pitch sessions, there were sessions held by the invited guests.  I attended one by Skype's Chief Evangelist, Sten Tamkivi, also with ASI (one of Frenzoo's investors). It was inspiring and gave practical ideas to help build Frenzoo into an even larger community, learning from the lessons of Skype.

And apart from that, it was also a great chance to grab all the girls who were wondering past and show them Frenzoo and run impromtu focus groups... we absolutely love real feedback!!  Thanks to those who helped share their opinions and ideas to us ^_^

In Second Life - 2009 World Intraverse Awards - Fashion Award

Picture 5

Spot the Frenzoo team ztylist in SecondLife! Hint - he is wearing cool white shoes =P

Seems our 3D Style world, Frenzoo.com is picking up nice early interest from folks in the industry.

We were honored included as one of the winners in the 2009 World Intraverse Awards getting a special mention as the "most global 3D fashion centric achievement".  Well to be honest, it's nice recognition but we're not taking it that seriously - we're still down in the trenches working to improve the site and evolve it into a fantastic experience for all our avatars =)

The award ceremony was held in Second Life, which was slightly chaotic experience but fun nonetheless. We hope in the future we'll be able to host events in our own world!!

Check out the full post on VR Fashion blog.

Frenzoo.com is having a runway malfunction...UPDATE - Fixed now

UPDATE - We have worked around the AWS problems and are back up again. Thanks for your patience <3

Second Life expert Tateru Nino reviews Frenzoo, 3D Avatar Fashion World

Tateru Nino Second Life

Well, we were very surprised when our humble little 3D Fashion Site Frenzoo.com was reviewed by Tateru Nino, a well known writer and all-around expert on all things Second Life.

Tateru writes for Massively.com and has interviewed Philip Rosedale from Linden Labs, so we were slightly nervous and excited to read what her impressions were of Frenzoo *_*

Well, we needn't have been worried, it was a very positive view, and she was  impressed with the ease of fashion design on Frenzoo and the friendly and creative vibe in the community.

"Frenzoo is a fantastic place to meet like-minded people, girls and guys, who love fashion, whether they be spectators, shoppers, designers...

Still in beta, Frenzoo is already a fine establishment, and steaming along at speed...

The design tools for clothing creation are already superlative."

The article finished by summarising Frenzoo as the Facebook of fashion-designing (which we take as a compliment!) and making the point that we've made a great start - given how far we've come and evolved the site.

She is expecting more big things to come... and she's right ^.^

Thanks Tateru!  Do head on over to the site and read the full post: Dwell On It: Impressions: Frenzoo

All good things come to an end…

N699785087_5865863_1327 Back in January, I received an e-mail from a company named Frenzoo. They said they would like to do an interview with me. They were looking for an enthusiastic girl who was into fashion and geeky (= internet/computer-savvy) at the same time. To me, it seemed like a match made in heaven. How could I be so fortunate to find an exciting internship, which totally matched my interests and was located in Hong Kong.

I still remember my first day to work. I was up early, and of course I was terribly nervous. When I got to the office, everybody was really nice and I almost instantly felt at ease. (Even despite the fact that they still had to set up my desk XD)

My first week at Frenzoo was a whole new and exciting experience for me. I already learned a bunch of interesting things and was learning more every day. Before, I didn’t know what online marketing was all about, or even how to manage a whole online community. N739900044_6086432_7942208

There were a variety of tasks that I’ve fulfilled during my internship. I’ve drawn up a marketing plan, did translations to French and Dutch on the website, searched for new ways to promote Frenzoo, managed the community, creative thinking for improvement, managed multiple online resources for Frenzoo in different networks, etc.

I must say that I did not expect to achieve this much experience in my internship. Not only did I gain more knowledge on several aspects within Frenzoo, I also had the privilege to get to know a fantastic group of people!

All good things come to an end... and even though my internship has ended with Frenzoo, I will always remember my unforgettable experience here. I would like to thank all the wonderful people at Frenzoo and who knows...our paths might cross again in the future?
